Happy Mothers Day Mom!
I have been blessed by a wonderful Mother, she turned 90 in January. Being a Mother is a great joy for me, my children and grandchildren have showered me with love. God has blessed me with hundreds of children and grandchildren in this beautiful country of Zanzibar – Tanzania.
HAVE A BLESSED MOTHER’S DAY

This year as we celebrated the “International Day of the Midwife” with the theme “Midwives, Mothers, and Families, Partners for Life”. CHaRA and ZANA (Zanzibar Nurses Association) sponsored training in village districts to teach men on health issues of women and babies. This included natural methods to plan pregnancies so that Mothers and their babies have a better chance of survival.

The response of the men was very good. On May 4th we celebrated midwives. The Minister of Health encouraged the midwives as he spoke about the importance of their work. He talked about the care of patients, especially during birth; before, during and after.  CHaRA announced the new education scholarships for rural midwives in Unguja and Pemba. Seven ladies will be part of the program this year, they will be in nursing/midwife school 3 years.

All midwives received TOMS Shoes from CHaRA. The last day was spent at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital greeting new Mothers and giving gifts to their new babies. We were able to give 570 birth kits and new bed sheets donated through Birthing Hope to the hospital. Birth kits, exam tables and other supplies were given to rural clinics for midwives. CHaRA has provided thousands of birth kits over the past 8 years.

It is a privilege to be a partner in bringing hope to Zanzibar through this program.

Please pray with me for the Midwives, Mothers, and their Families. Thank you to the special women of the Birthing Hope Tea.

Love, Carol – CHaRA
