Bring hope to rural Africa

Founders

CHaRA was started by Carol and Ron McDonald in 2006. Ron and Carol started their mission work in Romania and The Republic of Moldova 1996-1999. It became their passion to work in villages among those in need. In 1999 they took their first trip to Africa. They lived and worked 7 years 1999-2006 in Tanzania East Africa as part of a mission organization: building, training and helping people.

Now they are working as CHaRA Construction Health and Relief Acts, a 501(c3) non profit organization. From 2006-2017, they worked together with the local people, missionaries and the government to build schools, facilitate health clinics, provide training and clean birth kits to midwives, give mosquito nets, help with community relief and development activities. CHaRA sent SEVEN 40’ containers filled with donated medical equipment and supplies to the Zanzibar Islands. They also partnered with TOMS Shoes to provide 512,000 pairs of shoes plus hundreds of flip flops in the schools of Zanzibar.

It was our joy and pleasure to work with the people of Zanzibar Tanzania to help alleviate poverty and sickness for 10 years.

In 2017, Ron & Carol moved with CHaRA to the Mainland of Tanzania to begin the work of the Birth Hope Center which is a lifelong project caring for mothers and babies while sharing the Light of God.

Letter from the Founders

What we have discovered in Tanzania are kind and hard working people who live in poverty with deadly water conditions and suffering from many diseases. We have found malaria to be the number one killer of children under 5 and that all areas of life are affected by this parasite. We discovered hospitals with lack of basic equipment and supplies to care for their people. We discovered children are sent from age 4 to fetch water, mainly little girls that many times are molested and unable to attend school. We see HIV/AIDS killing parents and leaving millions of orphans. We have found 1 of 5 babies die at birth and many of these deaths can be stopped by the purchase of a small clean birthing kit.

All of these things creating the cycle of poverty and a people without hope. If we can come along side of the Tanzanians and help provide basic health care, malaria prevention training with nets to protect their families, enhance the hospital equipment, provide water sources, build schools, build orphan homes, sponsor orphans, make a way for girls to attend school, educate in all areas including health issues we can help to save lives and alleviate poverty. If we can share our love and compassion with those in need we can bring hope.

There is so much demand. The need for the Birth Hope Center is great! Please find out how you can support vital projects of CHaRA. As stewards of your hard earned giving we will continue working to improve the lives of the people in Tanzania East Africa. On behalf of CHaRA we want to say thank you. We appreciate the support of our donors and those who go with us. After MANY years of being in this country we have seen things change for good in the country. We’re excited and honored to continue being part of this great transformation.

“Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble. The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land.” Join us and experience the joy!

Sincerely,
Ron and Carol McDonald
