CHaRA returned to Mwera Village with this team of nurses to provide health care for 167 children of the village. It was a great day with time to play with the children and give each child daily vitamins for one month. The mothers were taught about malaria prevention and health issues as simple as hand washing.  One day was spent at the Makunduchi Cottage Hospital and clinic. Here 108 children under that age of 5 were checked by the team of nurses and a doctor from Tanzania. One mother brought her baby boy in with a temperature over 104 so he was taken with one of our nurses to the hospital located next to the clinic. He was given the right amount of medicine and they were able to get his fever down, days later he was home doing well. Another baby was seen by the nurses at the hospital was 6 pounds at birth but in one month his young mother could not feed him and he weighed 2lbs 4 oz. by the time we saw baby Isa, we were too late to save his life. At the clinic in Makgoli they saw 315 mothers and babies. They also spent time checking the children at the Forodhani Orphanage and teaching at the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar. The day at the hosital they toured the labor and delivery room where they saw 3 babies in one incubator that later dies because of low birth weight. It was a hard day seeing the conditions of the hospital where 26 to 30 babies are born each day and many of these mothers and babies die. Most days only 2 nurses are on duty to deliver these babies. The afternoon at Tondooni Village where they distributed food to 286 families was also an eye opening day for this team of young women. They did a great job in Zanzibar and Pemba helping the people and saving lives.  You can see pictures of their trip in the photo gallery.
