A little personal news and reason to rejoice. Our daughter Jodie and son in law Joseph are the proud parents of 2 children; Max age 3 and Ellie age 1. Today they left the orphanage and will be home in the USA in the next few days. Adoption is a beautiful act of God's love and we are so happy to be the blessed receivers.  Max and Ellie will fill our family with great love and joy! 

September 13th Max and Ellie started their journey to America with their Daddy and Mommy. We are blessed. They are doing well.

THE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLY CONTAINER ARRIVES IN ZANZIBAR.  There were news and television reporters on hand to record the events of the day.  The container left Concord North Carolina on February 18, 2008 and after crossing the sea and going through a couple of ports it arrived at its destination, The Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar Tanzania.

In July 2008 a team was privileged to venture into the heart of Tanzania to Haydom, a town in the central highlands.  The road to get there was typical of the bush, unpaved, dusty, and at one point becoming to or three parallel trails.  Up the escarpment we went, the road clinging to the ridgeline.  And at the top, a rolling plateau with a vista, a tiny town, and people with the biggest hearts on Earth.  Our eight tired and road weary souls found ourselves at the Hotel California.  We checked our luggage in but we could never do anything but leave our hearts there.

Luhende Kama Somanla - Transformation

     In August 2005 we met Lunhende in Domanga Village. We had come with a small team to present drama, stories and provide some much needed food. Luhende stood alone, he had a severe cleft palate; he had been abandoned by his parents because the people thought they were cursed for giving birth to this little boy. An old lady in the village took the abandoned baby into her home and somehow fed him for eight years. Our hearts were full of compassion for him believing God had a plan for his life.  Within a few days, we miraculously found that a doctor from Norway would be coming to the hospital in nearby Haydom (1-2 hour dirve) and we made plans for Luhende to have surge ... In 2005 the founders of CHaRA were helping with a wellness clinic on the Island of Zanzibar where they met Aisha. She was 8 months old at the time. Her grandmother brought her into the clinic at the point of death. They rushed her to the hospital to find the hospital in Zanzibar lacked many simple medical supplies and equipment to save lives.  Aisha was carried to the various departments of the hospital by Carol from x-ray to blood testing, Ron was sent into town for the medication and supplies needed to treat Aisha. Furaha iliyoje! Oh the joys He brings. Our hearts thrill at the greatness of our God. Our minds are swirling with  the events of all that has been accomplished in the past months. We celebrate the lives of those who have sojourned with us; it has been our delight to work along side each one.  In short detail these are some of the most recent events:

CHaRA partnered with Zanzibar Outreach, IMPACT, and Oxford University for a hearing awareness campaign.  During the week 16 children were fitted with hearing aids and our little girl Aisha now age 4 was included.
