A midwife reported she was on the way to the local clinic at least 5 miles or more walk with a lady ready to deliver. They did not make the clinic and she had to deliver the baby on the road side. She had the clean birth kit with her so she was able to have a clean safe birth. Baby and mother are doing well. We were told by one group of women that they sometime use old rice bags to lay the mother on to deliever. Now, they have Clean Birth Kits given by CHaRA that include a clean plastic sheet to lay the mother, clean gloves, sterile razor blade, clean ties, gauze, and soap.

Thauriyu is only 4 years old. He has spinal bifada and club feet. He is not able to walk, his mother carries him everywhere. Right now CHaRA is sponsoring him to the therapy clinic every week. They have put cast on his feet and preparing him for surgery. He now smiles when he sees us. A bright red car brought a big smile. He is in the top 10 worse cases in Zanzibar. Surgeons from Europe are coming soon to operate. We are praying for a miracle.

The USA has funded another year of malaria prevention by sending out teams to spray houses again. If they continue to spray and teach prevention this disease can be controlled and the death rate will drop by thousands. The mainland and other Islands are still under great attacks from this parasite that kills all ages of people, still the most vulnerable is children under 5 and pregnant women. Many thousands still need nets. We found this week on the Island of Mafia only 5000 nets were given to an Island of 50,000 people. They need nets. Spraying is not being done on this Island. We continue to teach in all of our health day clinics and distribute nets as we are able. We can only do this with the help of donors for nets. We have a school headed by Linda Hahn in North Carolina called Opportunity Middle School raising funds to help us save ...
